Las Vegas is more than just the strip!

Facts About Las Vegas

When we all think Las Vegas, we think glitz and glamour, betting machines, hotels and casinos. Of course, this is the way in which Vegas is most often marketed. It is the City that Never Sleeps, offering a nightlife second to none. Whether you are attending a show, dining at world-renowned restaurants, or having a flutter on your favourite casino game, this city offers you what few other cities in the world are capable of.

But what if you were in the city for a week and needed a way to get the best out of the daytime life in and around Vegas and Nevada? Are there some sites to see and some exciting places to visit? The answer is a resounding YES!

Vegas is not only about the strip. There are many day trip venues scattered within a few hours of the Sin City hub, worthy of exploration. We take a look at 7 of the better day time sights to be seen within a short distance. Make your days as adventurous as your nights with these popular destinations.

DEATH VALLEY

About 140 miles outside of town and just over 2 hours journey towards California, you can settle in to admire the arid ‘harsh-lands’ of the Death Valley National Park.

The park is massive, so you will not be able to view all of it in one visit, so be strategic about where you want to visit each time you go. The environment includes sand dunes and colourful hill-scapes which offer wonderful sights to behold.

Enjoy breakfast or lunch at restaurants like Timbisha Village Frybread Tacos and Shave Ice or the Panamint Springs Resort Restaurant

GRAND CANYON WEST

The Grand Canyon is an extensive set of canyons running from Nevada to California. Only 2 hours outside Vegas, this adventure that lies ahead is manifold in its opportunities. Take a helicopter ride, enjoy a hike, take in the sights from the sky bridge, or get wet while white water rafting; the adventure is endless.

Just being in the wild for the day should rejuvenate you for the lights of the night back on the strip.

ST GEORGE

Travel about 120 miles towards Utah and enjoy the activities that lie in wait in St George, Utah. It is here that the dry desert rocks transform into a towering landscape of alpine mountains.

This town affords you many sites, such as Pioneer Park, St George Utah Temple and more. Simply walk the town, visit museums and select from multiple eateries and restaurants to fill your belly at.

MOJAVE NATIONAL PRESERVE

Less than an hour out of Vegas, you can take in the sights of the Mojave National Preserve. Pack a picnic and plan to see certain sites before you leave the city limits because the area encapsulates a large area.

Enjoy sites like the Lava Tube, or the Kelso Dunes and take in the rocky outlays and sparse vegetation.

VALLEY OF FIRE

This park in Nevada is a tourist hotspot. Only 55 minutes outside of Vegas, this landscape provides for awesome hiking trails, as well as scenic drives through the wild. The hills, boulders and mounds provide for a great sense of adventure. Enjoy the marvellous sights of layered rock landscapes where the carrion soar high above in search of a morsel or two.

Sights that should not be missed are Elephant Rock and Rainbow Vista.

BOULDER CITY

Boulder City is only 26 miles outside of Las Vegas, but it provides a very different atmosphere to the City of Lights. Venture downtown for a bite to eat or to do some shopping, while outside of town, you can see sights, such as the massive hoover dam, or you can zip-line through the cliffs, and visit the natural hot springs close by.

MOUNT CHARLESTON

From the Desert sun to the chilli White Mountains, this is the experience that travelling to Mount Charleston, Nevada will give you.

Its only 3 quarters of an hour outside the humdrum of the city, but it sure does provide you with a great sense of escape. Pack a picnic or take a hike to get in some good old fashioned fresh air. If the heat of the desert gets too much, this place should cool you down a bit, as it is usually a good 10 degrees or colder than it is in the City.
